Barolo Palace

As fundamental premises we considered recuperating the arch´s value as the building´s entrance frame as well as the transparency of the passage. We took back the original idea of the arc as a space defining element which gives continuity to the passage. To achieve this, we proposed demolishing the intervention and restoring the original arch by placing a single glass sheet that occupies the entire void inside the arch.

The intervention is minimum, the structure is the online thing that adheres to the building only in certain places where it is needed. The glass is separated 5cm from the arch; hence it does not alter the façade, which we consider primordial for this historic intervention. This way, the arch frames the space, and the intervention does not alter this concept. The decision not to place a frame on the glass reinforces the idea. The glazing is used as a transparency and not as a door.
